Get samples onto your EP in bulk
Import from Files or straight out of a video, then move, rename, replace, and delete samples in batches instead of one pad at a time.
Loading samples onto an EP means one slot at a time through a three-character display. Best Friend does it in batches.
Import from Files
Pull in a whole folder of samples at once from iCloud Drive, Dropbox, an external drive, or anywhere else the Files app can reach. Select what you want, import it, and assign the samples to pads.
Import from a video
Audio can be pulled directly out of a video in your library — a phone recording of a rehearsal, a clip you saved, anything with a soundtrack. Best Friend extracts the audio, and from there it behaves like any other sample: edit it, trim it, send it to a pad.
Work in batches once they are on
Tap Select, then tap the samples you want. Everything that is tedious one pad at a time becomes a single operation:
- Move samples between pads and banks.
- Delete in bulk to reclaim space.
- Share a selection out to another app or another person.
One at a time, you can also:
- Search your samples by name.
- Duplicate a sample by giving it a different target slot number.
- Reorder by dragging a row.
- Edit and replace in place — change a sample and put it back on the pad it came from, without rebuilding the arrangement around it.
Running low on space?
Repitching a sample, lowering its rate, or collapsing it to mono all shrink the file before it is uploaded. See fit more samples on your EP.
More on working in bulk
Select mode, drag-to-move, swipe-to-delete, and loading a sample straight to the active pad are covered in move, share, and delete samples in bulk.
Backups from the EP Sample Tool
Projects and Systems exported from Teenage Engineering’s own EP Sample Tool import as backups, not as loose samples — see import backups and Bank Snapshots.
Before you make big changes
Take a backup first. A Bank Snapshot captures a single bank so you can put it back exactly as it was — see Back up and restore your EP.
