Crop, normalize, repitch, and add effects to a sample
A real sample editor with studio-grade effects, so samples are finished before they ever reach a pad.
Best Friend includes a full sample editor. You can fix a sample properly before it lands on a pad instead of working around it afterwards.
All edits are destructive — they permanently alter your sample. To keep the original, duplicate it to an empty slot first, as below.
Processing
These rewrite the sample itself:
- Crop to the part you actually want.
- Normalize to bring a quiet sample up.
- Reverse.
- Repitch — the fastest way to shrink a file and reclaim space on the hardware.
- Stereo to mono, flattening a stereo file.
- Change sample rate.
You can zoom into the waveform to place an edit precisely, and Best Friend can automatically detect and set the key of a sample.
Effects
Stack any of these on a sample:
- Three-band EQ
- 1176-style compression
- Distortion and saturation
- Octaver
- Small Stone-style Phaser
- Juno-style Chorus
- Tremolo
- Delay
- Reverb
Split a sample into stems
Any sample can be split into isolated drums, bass, vocals, guitar, and instruments, then remixed or muted before it reaches a pad. See Split a song into stems.
Replace a sample in place
Edit a sample and put it back on the pad it came from. The arrangement around it is untouched.
Copy or duplicate a sample
Change the slot number to one that is empty and save. The edit lands on the new slot and the original is left as it was.
