Sync your Library across your Apple devices

Backups, bounces, and Bank Snapshots move between your iPhone, iPad, and Mac over iCloud.

On Apple devices, your whole Library syncs over iCloud. Take a backup on your phone at a rehearsal, restore it from your Mac at home. One App Store purchase covers iPhone, iPad, and Mac, so there is nothing else to set up.

What syncs

Everything in the Library: Backups, Bounces, and Bank Snapshots, each with its name, colour, and notes.

You can see them in Files ▸ iCloud Drive ▸ Best Friend, in three folders — Backups/, Bounces/, and BankSnapshots/ — each holding the file itself plus a small sidecar with its metadata.

It arrives while you are looking at it

A second device fills in while the Library page is open. No relaunch, no tab switch. Rows appear in one batch rather than one reload per file.

A rename or a recolour made on another device lands on the open page within a second or two. Two people renaming two different items on two devices both stick.

Deleting on one device removes the row on the other.

Items stored in iCloud but not downloaded

iCloud may offload a file you have not touched in a while. Those rows list with a cloud badge, and VoiceOver reads them as “In iCloud, not downloaded”.

  • The first tap downloads the item, and does not open the restore sheet.
  • The second tap acts normally.
  • Restoring, previewing, or sharing an offloaded item shows “Downloading from iCloud…” first, then proceeds.
  • With no connection, the download fails with a banner rather than spinning forever.

If you are not signed in to iCloud

The Library works entirely locally. Best Friend tells you that items stay on this device, and nothing else changes.

Coming from an older version

Upgrading from a build before iCloud sync moves your Library once, behind a “Moving Library to iCloud…” progress view. Every item keeps its name, colour, and notes, and nothing duplicates. If the app is interrupted mid-move it finishes on the next launch.

On Android

Android backups are stored on the device. Google Play and the App Store are separate purchases with separate storage, and there is no sync between the two ecosystems — to move something across, share the file out and import it on the other side.
